Kingston is the capital of Jamaica, with over 937 000 inhabitants. Because Kingston became the official administration site for the British colonial government the city has been the capital since 1872. The city consists of two main parts, centrum and New Kingston. We chose to go to this city first.
- Us outside of the Bob Marley Museum.
One of the most famous places in Kingston is the Bob Marley museum. It is situated in the middle of Kingston in the New Kingston area. The museum is built around his former house, and his wife Rita Marley was the one to convert it to a museum. In the museum, you can see all aspects of Bob Marley’s life. The museum has everything from his personal possessions to a photo exhibition. A tour cost 25 USD and I would recommend getting one.
Fort Clarence Beach is a beach located a little outside Kingston, about a 40-minute ride. To get in you must pay a small fee, but it is worth it, there are less people and a cleaner environment. They also have changing facilities and showers for the guests. Many of the people who have visited recommend the fried fish. Therefore, we tried it. I would dare to say it is one of the freshest and best fish I’ve have ever eaten.
Next is Emancipation Park. The park is most famous for its bronze statue of two nude people, one woman and one man, who are gazing up to the sky. The statue symbolizes the freedom of the slaves. There are security guards present to prevent pickpocketing and vandalism. The aura of the park is soothing, and just strolling about will relax you.

The longest mountain range in Jamaica is the Blue mountains. The mountains have a diverse vegetation with over 500 different types of flowers, due to the diversity of the climate. The Blue mountains are also famous for their coffee which factories are situated there. There are also cabins at the peak, which one can rent. The scenery is breathtaking and we all agreed we would visit this place again.
Visiting Kingston and the locations surrounding was an amazing experience. This was the more “vacation” part of the trip. The next town we visited were Spanish Town.
